Arrived, Yet In-between: Experiences of Iranian Asylum-Seeker Women Living with Insecure Residency in Australia

Abstract The plight of asylum seekers is a politically contested issue in Australia. Iranian women have been the largest number asylum-seekers/Many bridging visas without secure residency status. Prolonged insecure may contribute to less integration and psychological dysfunction. This study aimed better understand psychosocial ramifications living with among asylum-seeker Australian community. A qualitative using semi-structured interviews was undertaken between February December 2015, who had Australia for 2–3 years. Data were analysed thematic analysis. Seventeen participants described their experiences perspectives describing socio-economic fear deportation feelings hopelessness associated Poor into communities high levels burdens commonly described. Protracted protection visa processing time has negative effects on seekers’ health. Policymakers should consider impact restrictions attached visas. In addition lifting barriers that slow process, identifying pre-resettlement skills facilitate settlement mental well-being.
